Why choose a psychologist?

Your options for choosing a therapist vary widely, from psychologist, counsellor, psychotherapist & life-coach, just to name a few. So why choose a psychologist? Of the aforementioned professions, only psychologists require a set of qualifications to practice under Australian law.

In order to satisfy registration requirements, a psychologist usually completes at least 6 years of tertiary qualifications combined with internships. Psychologists must apply to register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) on a yearly basis. Ongoing registration requires the psychologist to complete at least 30 hours of training and professional development.

Psychologists are also required to work by a strict code of ethics: http://www.psychology.org.au/about/ethics/
